BAR HARBOR — Dozens of quilt patches are streaming in to Fabricate crafting store for a community project designed to help cancer patients and spread awareness of ovarian cancer.
Fight Like a Quilter 2012 is a hands-on program in honor of friends and family who have fought ovarian cancer. The Healing Hands Guild of Mount Desert Island has teamed up with the store in the effort. All proceeds will go to hospitals in Maine and Maryland to help cancer patients with their travel costs.
Patch kits are available at Fabricate through the end of the month for a $5 donation and are due back by mid-June. Nearly 50 have already been returned, said store owner Nessa Reifsnyder, out of 200 kits that have gone out.
A quilting bee is set for Saturday, July 7, at Fabricate on Mount Desert Street.
