SEDGWICK — Dozens of Baptist ministers from across the United States attended an unveiling May 10 at Eggemoggin Baptist Church in Sedgwick of a large granite statue honoring the life of Daniel Merrill, who co-founded Colby College.
The Baptist Historical Preservation Society donated the stone with help from the Independent Baptist Foundation of America, which is located in Oregon.
Jeff Faggart, who is pastor of Harvest Baptist Church in Rockwell, N.C., led the event.
Faggart thanked the Eggemoggin Baptist Church, which is led by Pastor Stephen McFarland and Pastor Howard Bamford, for its willingness to host the monument.
The story of Daniel Merrill “needs to be remembered and it needs to be memorialized,” Faggart said.
