MDI Trojans Win Boys’ Meet in Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — The Mount Desert Island Trojan boys were first and the MDI girls were runners-up in a pair of outdoor track meets on Friday at Del Luce Stadium.

MDI finished with 139 points, besting the host Ellsworth Eagles by 11 points in the boys’ meet. Following were Central 105, the Sumner Tigers and Washington Academy 52, Calais 43, John Bapst 37, Narraguagus 1 and Machias with no score.

In the girls’ competition, the John Bapst Crusaders led the way with 179 points, followed by MDI 153, Ellsworth 78, Central 64, Washington Academy 36, Calais 33, Sumner and Narraguagus 2 and Machias and Jonesport-Beals with no scores.

In the boys’ meet, Ellsworth finished with wins in five events, including all three relays.

Dan Curts won the 1,600-meter run in 4:24.27 and Kody Holmes took top honors in the 800-meter run in 2:09.58.

In the four-by-800-meter relay, Holmes combined with Derek Hawes, Robert Looker and Blake Pattengale for a winning time of 8:53.05.

In the four-by-400-meter relay, Jack Weeks, Maks Grover, Pattengale and Ben Conners combined to win in 3:45.49.

Weeks, Grover, Brandon St. Germain and Jacob Jordan won the four-by-100-meter relay in 47.29 seconds.

MDI’s Trojans also won five individual events.

Will Fletcher was first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:44.37.

Chris Clemens won the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 9 inches.

Sean Harding won the javelin with a throw of 129 feet.

Jayson Burke was first in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 11.75 inches.

In the pole vault, Jordan Harris led a quartet of Trojans to the first four places with a winning height of 9 feet.

Sumner’s John San Diego was first in the 300-meter hurdles in 43.53 seconds.

110-meter hurdles: San Diego, second in 17.95 seconds; Nick Wright, Ellsworth, third in 20.23; Matt Hanna, MDI, fourth in 20.25.

100-meter dash: Baramee Janla, Sumner, third in 12.13 seconds; Grover, fifth in 12.20,

1,600-meter run: Richard Helmke, MDI, second in 4:50.99; Aidan Robichaud-Ward, MDI, fourth in 5:03.45.

Four-by-100-meter relay: Sumner (San Diego, Brandon Wade, Tyler Bae, Janla), third in 49.53 seconds; MDI (Clemens, Tom Reilly, Brandon Murphy, Lucas Murphy), fifth in 49.85.

400-meter run: Weeks, third in 54.26 seconds; Pattengale, fourth in 54.64; Taylor Lee, Sumner, fifth in 54.80.

300-meter hurdles: Weeks, second in 45.93 seconds; Hanna, fourth in 47.63; Wright, fifth in 53.55.

800-meter run: Robert Looker, Ellsworth, third in 2:11.37; Will Richard, MDI, sixth in 2:14.63.

200-meter run: Janla, third in 24.37 seconds; Weeks, fourth in 24.59; Conners, fifth in 24.69; Brandon Murphy, sixth in 24.99.

3,200-meter run: Hawes, third in 10:58.89; Lee, fifth in 11:10.32; Jordan Harris, MDI, sixth in 11:24.80.

Four-by-400-meter relay: Sumner (Janla, Wade, Bae, San Diego), fourth in 3:56.49.

High jump: Richard, second at 5 feet, 4 inches; Wade, third at 5 feet; Harris, fourth at 4 feet, 10 inches; John Boumil, MDI, fifth at 4 feet, 10 inches.

Long jump: Jordan, third at 17 feet, 11.5 inches; Clemens, fourth at 17 feet, 3.75 inches; Andrew Atwater, Sumner, sixth at 14 feet, 7 inches.

Triple jump: Jordan, second at 35 feet, 2 inches; Conners, third at 32 feet, 10.5 inches; Hanna, fourth at 32 feet, 7 inches; Seamus O’Brien, Sumner, sixth at 32 feet, 2.5 inches.

Javelin: Aaron Jewett, MDI, second at 110 feet, 6 inches; Dan Cox, Ellsworth, fifth at 105 feet, 6 inches; Lee, sixth at 103 feet, 7 inches.

Discus: Cox, second at 119 feet, 8 inches; Ezra Hallett, MDI, third at 109 feet, 7 inches,

Shot put: Hallet, fifth at 38 feet, 7.5 inches.

Pole vault: Reilly, second at 8 feet, 6 inches; Bailey Stillman, MDI, third at 8 feet; Lucas Murphy, fourth at 7 feet, 6 inches; Aiden Bothwell, Ellsworth, fifth at 7 feet, 6 inches.

Aleta Looker was a double winner for Ellsworth in the girls’ meet.

Looker placed first in the 400-meter run in 1:01.48 and first in the 800-meter run in 2:21.59.

Other winners for the Eagles were Lauren Barkhouse with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault, and Tori Huntley with a throw of 29 feet, 7 inches in the shot put.

MDI’s Trojans placed first in five events.

Malia Demers took top honors in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:37.75.

Cecilia Thomas won the 300-meter hurdles in 52.72 seconds.

Isabel Erickson won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.

Bailey Burr won the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 4 inches.

With Maggie Painter leading the way in 11:57.58, the Trojans dominated in the 3,200-meter run, taking all six scoring positions.

Behind Painter were Nora Hubbell in 12:14.94, Caroline Driscoll in 12:15.28, Olivia Erickson in 12:27.49, Isabel Erickson in 12:32.55 and Rachel McMinimy in 12:52.10.

Four-by-800-meter relay: MDI (Ellie Mason, Ning Ye, Dominique Hessert, Catie Smith), second in 12:12.88.

100-meter hurdles: Thomas, fourth in 18.40 seconds.

1,600-meter run: Kayla Ray, MDI, third in 5:53.06; Haley Lawrence, Ellsworth, fourth in 5:57.91.

Four-by-100-meter relay: MDI (Hannah Carroll, Emma Fernald, Emily Lewis, Thomas), third in 57.18 seconds.

400-meter run: Lewis, fifth in 1:09.14; Fernald, sixth in 1:09.37.

300-meter hurdles: Jacqueline Cormier, Sumner, fifth in 57.41 seconds.

800-meter run: Isabel Erickson, second in 2:25.59; Olivia Erickson, third in 2:29.48; Painter, fourth in 2:32.75; Driscoll, sixth in 2:36.43.

200-meter run: Lewis, fourth in 29.92 seconds; Fernald, sixth in 30.20.

Four-by-400-meter relay: Ellsworth (Barkhouse, Brooke Dunn, Lawrence, Looker), second in 4:44.30.

High jump: Abby Homer, Ellsworth, third at 4 feet, 6 inches; Rebecca Planchart, MDI, fourth at 4 feet, 6 inches; Huntley, fifth at 4 feet, 4 inches.

Long jump: Fernald, sixth at 13 feet, 5 inches.

Triple jump: Burr, second at 33 feet, 9.5 inches.

Javelin: Huntley, second at 88 feet, 5 inches; Ray, third at 84 feet, 4 inches.

Discus: Huntley, sixth at 68 feet, 5 inches.

Shot put: Kelsey Leighton, Ellsworth, sixth at 25 feet, 2 inches.

Pole vault: Lainey Cohen, Ellsworth, second at 7 feet; Smith, third at 6 feet, 6 inches; Mason, fourth at 6 feet, 6 inches; Olivia Erickson, fifth at 6 feet, 6 inches.
