ELLSWORTH — The owner of a growing chain of fireworks stores plans to open a Bucksport Road location a couple of weeks before the Fourth of July.
“I’m going to have five stores in the state,” said Steve Marson, owner of Pyro City Maine Fireworks Stores.
Marson opened his first Pyro City in Manchester March 1. It was the first fireworks store in the state after the legalization of the sale and use of consumer fireworks. A second store opened in Edgecomb in April and a Winslow store is opening soon.
Marson plans to open his fourth Pyro City in Ellsworth June 16 — the first day the city can issue a consumer fireworks retail sales license. A Presque Isle store is also planned.
The Ellsworth City Council will consider Pyro City’s license application Monday night.
If approved, the local Pyro City will be located at 328 Bucksport Road in a 4,800-square-foot building next to C&C Machine. The shop will be open year-round and provide good-paying jobs with benefits for up to six people, Marson said.
Summer hours will likely be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, he said.
