Champion Bulgarian singer Elitsa Stoyneva will be performing with the Maine Women’s Balkan Choir in a new concert series kicking off at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Ellsworth.
After a one-year hiatus, the full Maine Women’s Balkan Choir with Elitsa Stoyneva has scheduled a new concert season this spring and summer, with shows planned for Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Belfast and Bangor.
First up is “A Taste of Bulgaria” Saturday, May 12, at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Ellsworth. This season opener will not only feature the haunting harmonies and stirring music from the Balkan region, but a dance party will follow with authentic Bulgarian refreshments and dances and songs taught by Stonyeva. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 and children 12 and under go free.
The second concert is set for Friday, May 18, 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Church in Ellsworth. This concert will follow the church’s bean supper to benefit Kid’s Care. A donation of $8 is suggested A dance party will follow the concert in the parish room. The bean supper, which starts at 5:30, is separate and admission is by donation.
