GOULDSBORO — Joan Frances Garbar, 78, died May 12, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 12, 1934, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of John W. and Gertrude R. (Gasey) Hayes.

Joan was a teacher all her life. She worked in California, Colorado and Connecticut, where she received the distinct honor of Teacher of the Year just prior to her retirement.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Henry J. Garber of Gouldsboro.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth. Those who desire may make contributions in Joan’s memory to The ARK Animal Shelter, P.O.
