BAR HARBOR — Sweet Pea Farm and Bar Harbor Cellars owners Matt Gerald and Doug Maffuci have applied to the planning board for permission to expand some of the buildings at the farm, while also clarifying portions of their operation with regard to the land use ordinance.
Under the proposal, an 800-square-foot deck would be added to the wine shop and tasting room, along with an 867-square-foot patio. Also, a 1,000-square-foot addition would be added to a building used for food processing. While the winery seems to comply with the ordinance, the applicants want to add coffee roasting, baked goods and other food production to the operation. The owners hope to bring the entire operation into conformity with the ordinance, as compared to the “grandfathered, quasi-compatible use” they now function under, planning documents state.
The operation would gain two employees under the expansion, moving from four to six jobs.
