ELLSWORTH — Watch Me Shine Developmental Preschool has relocated from State Street to a much larger facility off Bucksport Road.
“About a year and a half ago we really outgrew the State Street location,” explained Tiffany Petronis, founder of the school, which provides services to children with special needs as well as preschool for all children.
It took time to find a suitable space. Watch Me Shine needed a large room for the preschool, separate gym space and small rooms for individual therapy.
The perfect fit was found at 23 Carriage Way off Bucksport Road. The 3,700-square-foot building formerly housed Families United.
The school made the move in early March. The new space and hiring of additional staff means the school can accept more preschool and special needs students.
Watch Me Shine serves students with autism and autism spectrum disorders, sensory, behavioral and emotional issues, Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
Building caring, trusting relationships with students is the best way to facilitate learning, staff said.
Much of that learning is done through play.
“Part of our philosophy is children learn best through play,” Petronis explained.
