AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IFW) has issued a reminder that this year’s lottery for a moose permit closes May 14. Only online applications are being accepted at this time. Applications through the mail were due in April.
“We would encourage people to apply as soon as possible and avoid the chance they might miss the opportunity to participate,” IFW commissioner Chandler Woodcock said.
The state will award 3,725 permits to take a moose this year. Applications must be submitted to www.maine.gov/ifw by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 14.
The winners will be announced at the annual Moose Lottery Festival in Oquossoc. Maine’s moose hunt takes place between Sept. 24 and Nov. 24, depending on the wildlife management district.
