SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Tabbetha Newenham, the town’s water and sewer clerk, is taking on the added duties of associate finance director. Town manager Don Lagrange has ultimate responsibility for handling the town’s finances.
“We have combined a lot of work in one position,” Mr. Lagrange said of Ms. Newenham’s new job description. “We are reorganizing job functions to be more efficient with less personnel.”
Sue Lessard, who was hired for the new position of finance director in early January, resigned after 11 weeks to return to her previous job as town manager in Hampden. Mr. Lagrange said Ms. Lessard has been training Ms. Newenham for her new responsibilities.
To help with customer service, bookkeeping and other duties, Mr. Lagrange said he plans to hire an office assistant to work about 25 hours a week.
