TREMONT — Voters here will elect two selectmen and a school committee member at the annual town election on Monday, May 14 and, on the following day, Tuesday, May 15, consider a $1.79 million municipal budget at their open town meeting.
Polls are open May 14 from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Harvey Kelley Meeting Room of the town office.
Incumbents Chris Eaton and Bobby Lee are unopposed in their bids for another three years on the board of selectmen. Christina Butler and Heidi Lawson are vying for a seat on the school committee. A write-in candidate will fill an open seat on the high school board of trustees; no one returned nomination papers for the position.
Voters also are to weigh in on a nonbinding referendum on whether to consolidate the K-8 school in Tremont with the one in Southwest Harbor. School officials will use the results of the referendum to determine how to proceed, if at all, with consolidation.
The open meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. May 15 in the Harvey Kelley Meeting Room.
Mark Good covers the towns of Southwest Harbor and Tremont, cops and courts and writes arts and feature stories. When not on the job he can be found making music or flyfishing. He and his wife live in Tremont with a dog and two cats.
