SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Three people, including two incumbents, are vying for two three-year seats on the town’s school committee.
Voters will fill those seats by secret ballot next week at the annual town elections. Polls will be open at the fire station from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.
The incumbents, Susan Allen and Prentice “Skip” Strong, are facing a challenge from Michael Sawyer.
Ms. Allen was elected to the school committee in November to fill the remainder of a three-year term left vacant by the resignation of Amy Young.
“I knew after the first meeting that I wanted to do this,” she said.
Mr. Strong is completing his seventh year on the school committee. “It’s community service,” he said. “You have to step up and do something and this is what I’m good at.”
Mr. Sawyer has made several unsuccessful bids for seats on the school committee. The most recent was in November, when Ms. Allen defeated him in a 371-252 vote. He was unavailable for comment.
