SULLIVAN — Righthander Justin Chipman gave the Sumner Tigers their first win after three losses, 2-0, pitching a four-hit shutout with two strikeouts and two walks against the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners on Monday.
The Tigers got all the runs they needed in the first two innings against Mariner righthander Kyle Seile, who also pitched a four-hitter.
In the first inning, Joey Malloy drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored on a pop fly by Lucas Potter-Harmon.
In the second inning, Sam Smith doubled, moved to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers threatened again in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs, but a force play at third base ended the inning.
The Mariners put two runners aboard in the top of the sixth on an infield single by Nathan Davis and a walk to Sam Grindle, but Chipman retired the next two batters.
