Lady Mariners Cruise Past Tigers

Written by  Hugh Bowden Tuesday, May 01, 2012 at 3:53 pm

SULLIVAN — DI-Stonington jumped on the Sumner Tigers early, scoring nine runs in the first three innings en route to a 14-2 win on Monday.

The Mariners plated three runs in the first inning on a walk to winning pitcher Sydney Ouzts, a double by Chelsea Brown and a pair of Sumner errors.

The Tigers picked up a run in the bottom of the inning as Jordan Merchant reached base after striking out on a passed ball, stole second and scored on an infield out by Sarah Leighton.

But Ouzts allowed just one run the rest of the way.

A bunt single by Sarah Boutilier, a walk to Janelle Ciomei, another Tiger error and an RBI single by Moriah Nutter pushed the Mariner lead to 5-1 in the second.

In the third for DI-Stonington, Julie Hutchins and Emily Cormier both singled and Michala Brown walked with Hutchins scoring on the wild pitch.

Boutilier then reached on an error with Cormier and Brown both scoring on throwing errors by the Tigers.

Boutilier scored the fourth run of the inning on a single by Amber Jones.
