FORT MYERS BEACH, FLA. And HANCOCK POINT— JoAnne Stewart Stanley of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Hancock Point passed away April 25, 2012, of pneumonia at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. She was born June 2, 1922, in Mountain Lakes, N.J.
She attended Westbrook College, served as a WAVE in World War II, and married Benjamin Ginter Stanley in 1946. Together they raised four children. Their interest in collecting antiques grew from a hobby into a business. JoAnne’s sunny outlook, imagination, and unique sense of humor drew people to her. She will be best remembered as a loving, compassionate and beautiful person. She had strong religious faith. She was a wonderful role model, demonstrating courage and strength. Her spirit will live on through family, friends and fun shared at the Stanley Cottage; a place “JoJo” created and cherished.
JoAnne was predeceased by her husband of 39 years and an infant daughter, Devon. She is survived by a son, Christopher Stanley of Damariscotta; three daughters, Brooke Simon of Sanibel, Fla., Heather Parker of Bradford, and Paige Stanley Miller of New York, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of a memorial, a random act of kindness could be done in keeping with JoAnne’s way.
