ELLSWORTH — Righthander Megan Hunt walked two batters and gave up a two-run triple in the first inning, but then retired 16 consecutive batters to pitch the Ellsworth Eagles past the Washington Academy Raiders 13-2 on Thursday.
The Raiders took a 2-0 lead on Brianne Corey’s three-bagger, but Hunt was largely untouchable the rest of the way, striking out nine batters and walking just two.
Kassidy Seeley pitched three scoreless innings for the Raiders before the Eagles took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth.
Ashlee Leighton-Bragg and Cristin Wright both singles and advanced on an infield out. Bragg then scored on a grounder to the pitcher by Sam McGuire and Wright scored on a wild pitch.
The Eagles plated the go-ahead run on back-to-back singles by Emily Berry, Marissa Boynton and Lexie Small.
Ellsworth added six more in the fifth inning on a bunt single by Heather Holt, an RBI double by Leighton-Bragg, a walk to Wright, a bunt single by Phyllicia Jordan, an RBI single by McGuire and a three-run triple by Annika Firestone.
A two-run single by Berry sparked a four-run sixth inning for the Eagles, who finished with 15 hits for the game.
