LAMOINE — Merrill S. Boynton, 96, died May 1, 2012, at his residence in Lamoine. He was born May 20, 1915, in Lamoine, the son of Chester M. and Mary Elizabeth (West) Boynton.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer in Africa and Europe from 1941-1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. During his working career, Merrill was a building contractor in the Hancock County area. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by a nephew, Robert Bearse; nieces, Donna Kabatek and Jeannette Caggiano. He was predeceased by his wife, Amanda Burns Boynton; siblings, Francis Boynton, Barbara Bearse, and Theodore Boynton. A special thank you to Cathy Smeal and Merrill’s caregivers.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 pm, Friday, May 4, 2012, at East Lamoine Cemetery, Lamoine, with the Rev. David Henry officiating. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
