ELLSWORTH — Falling asleep at the wheel is listed as the cause of two single-vehicle accidents last week.
On Friday, Angel Day, 39, of Sedgwick was westbound on the Newbury Neck Road in Surry when she reportedly fell asleep. Her 2001 Jeep left the road and hit an embankment and utility pole. Day, who complained of neck pain, was transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth.
The Jeep is considered a total loss.
A 2009 Subaru driven by Rebecca Peterson, 84, of Sedgwick is considered a total loss after she fell asleep April 17 while driving on Route 15 in the town. The car drifted off the left side of the road and crashed into the woods.
Employee Suspected
An April 16 complaint that an employee was stealing money from a business in Brooklin led to a summons for a 21-year-old Brooklin woman. Sean-na Allen was summoned on a theft charge.
Thefts
A large wooden carving of a cougar was reported missing Saturday from the lawn of a Lamoine residence.
A garden tractor and copper wire were taken April 18 from an Orland residence.
Copper pipe was taken April 17 from a pump house at the Blue Hill Country Club.
An unspecified amount of cash and a safe were reported stolen April 16 from a Tremont residence.
Needle Found
A pedestrian who found a hypodermic needle alongside the Tremont Road on Saturday flagged down Deputy Larry Fickett. The deputy disposed of the item.
Arrests
A traffic stop Saturday for a defective exhaust led to the arrest of a Surry man. Joseph Murphy, 21, was arrested on a charge of operating without a license.
A Verona Island man was arrested April 18 on outstanding warrants after Deputy Ben Astbury was called to assist Verona Island’s animal control officer. Frederick Herbest, 47, was arrested on three Waldo County warrants charging him with default in payment of fines.
Flowers Damaged
A Blue Hill business owner complained April 19 that flowers in front of her shop had been damaged five times in the past three weeks.
Reckless ATV Operation
Hanes Thibodeau, 20, no given address, was summoned Friday on charges of reckless operation of an ATV and operating an ATV on a public way.
Bush Damaged
A Lamoine woman reported April 16 that a “unique decorative bush” had been damaged sometime in the past two weeks.
Accident
A 1994 Volvo is considered a total loss after the driver, Stephen Salois, 17, of Surry drifted off the Mines Road in Sedgwick April 16 and struck a utility pole.
