Bucksport Town Manager Roger Raymond addresses town councilors during his final council meeting as manager April 19.

BUCKSPORT — If there was a Hall of Fame for Maine town officials, Roger Raymond would likely be a first-ballot inductee based on longevity alone.
While the Pine Tree State has no such Cooperstown for civil servants — at least one other state, Oklahoma, does — Raymond’s career remains impressive.
He started work in Bucksport 27 years ago, during the Reagan administration. On April 19, his next-to-last day of work before officially retiring, Raymond offered town councilors some striking statistics.
In his three decades of work, he said, he attended 822 Town Council meetings and 2,110 committee meetings.
“Don’t you want to go for 1,000?” asked Councilor Michael Ormsby, referring to the former figure.
Mayor David Keene thanked Raymond for his work, crediting the departing town manager for helping beautify Bucksport and leaving the town’s finances in “top-notch” shape.
At the suggestion of Councilor Byron Vinton, councilors and audience members offered Raymond a standing ovation.
“I certainly appreciate everything this council and previous councils have done for me and my family,” said Raymond.
Earlier in the April 19 meeting, Raymond outlined for the council how much unused sick and vacation time he was entitled to be paid for — a total of 488 hours (12 weeks).
“So I guess my comment to you guys is, ‘Pay up,’” said Raymond with a chuckle.
