WATERVILLE — The Thomas College softball team picked up a North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal win Wednesday afternoon, defeating Maine Maritime 6-3. The Mariners' (14-15) season comes to a close with the loss.
Samantha Moore led the Terriers (13-23-1) to the win going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs. Autumn Jones (Windham) led the Mariners going a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon.
The Mariners came out swinging, scoring the first run on an RBI single from Sabrina Keach (Chesterville) giving her team a 1-0 lead. The Terriers responded in a big way, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning with RBIs from Alei Collier, Kelsey Crowe, Lauren Hachey, and Ali Kriegel.
The score remained 4-1 until both teams added one more run in the fifth inning. Leah Jackson (Dedham) plated Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth) in the inning, while Alyssa Eugley scored on a wild pitch for the Terriers.
The Mariners tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning, but were not able to complete the comeback and fell short to the Terriers, 6-3.
Sara Pavento got the win for the Terriers to improve to 8-10. She threw a complete game, allowing only one earned run, while Abby Yeo shoulders the loss for the Mariners.
