BREWER — Ellsworth Eagle sophomore Aleta Looker was a double winner as the Penobscot Valley Conference outdoor track season got under way on Friday.
Looker took top honors in the 800-meter run in 2:22.44 and the 1,600-meter run in 5:20.29 as the Eagle girls placed fourth among the eight teams in the competition.
Girls’ team scores were Caribou 180, Brewer 148, Old Town 123, Ellsworth 60, Foxcroft Academy 32, Calais 19, Bangor Christian 6 and Sumner 5.
Lauren Barkhouse also notched a win for Ellsworth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8 feet, and placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:09.98.
Others who scored:
Lainey Cohen of the Eagles tied for second in the pole vault at 6 feet, 6 inches.
Haley Lawrence of Ellsworth was fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 6:15.69 and sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:50.64.
Ellsworth’s Tori Huntley had a trio of third place finishes with throws of 27 feet, 9.5 inches in the shot put, 73 feet, 1 inch in the discus and 88 feet, 9 inches in the javelin.
For Sumner’s Tigers, Jacqueline Cormier placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 21.20 seconds and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 58.41 seconds; and Chelsea Alley was sixth in the 1,600-meter run in 7:08.12.
Ellsworth’s Eagles scored a pair of wins in the boys’ meet, with sophomore Dan Curts placing first in the 3,200-meter run in 9:54.76, and the foursome of Curts, Blake Pattengale, Kody Holmes and Derek Hawes winning the four-by-800-meter relay in 8:55.22.
In the team scoring, it was Brewer the winner with 144 points, followed by Caribou 103, Ellsworth 91, Old Town 69, Bangor Christian 65, Foxcroft Academy 61, Calais 23 and Sumner 17.
Others who scored for Ellsworth:
Robert Looker was second in the 1,600-meter run in 4:55.68 and second in the 3,200-meter run in 11:00.82.
Pattengale was second in the 400-meter dash in 57.39 seconds.
Dan Cox was second in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, .25 inch, and fifth in the discus with a throw of 100 feet, 10 inches.
The foursome of Matt Fendl, Jack Weeks, Ben Conners and Jacob Jordan was second in the four-by-100-meter relay in 48.96 seconds.
The foursome of Fendl, Weeks, Hawes and Conners was fourth in the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:01.55.
Hawes was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:15.73 and sixth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:07.33.
Weeks was fourth in the pole vault at 9 feet.
Connors was fourth in the triple jump at 32 feet, 4 inches, and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.68 seconds.
Jordan was fourth in the long jump at 16 feet, 9.75 inches.
Nick Wright was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.88 seconds and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.90 seconds.
Adam Hitchcock was fifth in the triple jump at 29 feet, 9 inches.
For Sumner, John San Diego was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.56 seconds and second in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.03 seconds; and Baramee Janla was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 12.58 seconds.
