Camden Holmes Wins Two New England Swim Titles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Down East Family YMCA Dolphins finished up the winter season with meets in three states — and a New England champion.

Competing at the New England Swimming and Diving Championships at Harvard University, Camden Holmes took top honors in the 50-yard butterfly and the 50-yard freestyle for boys ages 9 and 10.

Several other Dolphins also turned in strong performances in their age groups.

Sam Alvarado placed fifth in the 50-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Cooper Holmes was fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, ninth in the 100-yard individual medley and 16th in the 100-yard butterfly.

Erin Connery was 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Conner Wagstaff placed 15th in the 50-yard breaststroke.

Also competing in the New England meet were Brandon Aponte, Kristy Barry, Ellie Clarke, Lainey Cohen, Beckett Markosian, Calvin Nelson, Ben Walton, Taylor Wardwell, Ceileigh Weaver and Isaac Weaver.

At the Eastern Zone Championships in Webster, N.Y., Connery, Sidney Hamilton, Talor Hamilton and Sam Pelletier represented DEFY and Hamilton set two team records, in the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle.

Three Dolphin swimmers — Keith Chandler, Maks Grover and Cece McEachern — competed at the YMCA Short Course National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

Chandler competed in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly; Grover swam the 100- and 200-yard backstroke; and McEachern sawm the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.

The Dolphins will begin their spring season on April 30.
