MOUNT DESERT — The American Library Association has declared the week of April 21-28 “Money Smart Week.” Money Smart Week’s mission is to promote personal financial literacy. Libraries of all types are partnering with community groups, financial institutions, government agencies, educational organizations and other financial experts to help consumers learn to better manage their personal finances. On Wednesday, April 25, at 6 p.m., certified financial planner Andrew Shea of Bar Harbor will be at the Northeast Harbor library to present a talk titled “Pre & Post Retirement Planning, Issues, Thoughts and Ideas.”
Mr. Shea says that retirement planning is for everyone. Consider these three facts — fewer than half of Americans have calculated how much they need to save for retirement; in 2009, 13 percent of private industry workers with access to a defined contribution plan (such as a 401(k) plan) did not participate; the average American spends 20 years in retirement.
Mr. Shea is a certified financial planner and an investment advisor representative affiliated with Boston Partners Financial Group, LLC. In 1999, he partnered with Tom Spencer in Sudbury, Mass. and continues to maintain an office there. In 2004, he opened an office in Bar Harbor and relocated his family back to Maine, his home state.
This is a free discussion and is open to everyone. For more information, contact the Northeast Harbor Library at 276-3333.
