TRENTON — The Trenton Planning Board April 11 approved — with conditions — a request by Acadia Fuel to locate a bulk fuel storage plant at 711 Bar Harbor Road.
Town approval is pending approvals from the Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
One other term of the conditional approval is that Acadia Fuel work with the Acadia Scenic Byway Committee to decide a paint color for the fuel tanks, said Planning Board Chairman Mark Remick.
A bulk storage plant will save Acadia Fuel money and time, according to Thomas Schwarm, president of Acadia Environmental Technology in Portland, which represents Acadia Fuel.
Currently, Acadia Fuel purchases petroleum products at Dead River Co.’s Ellsworth location at a higher cost than what Acadia Fuel would pay in Searsport, Schwarm explained.
The tanks will enable Acadia Fuel to purchase heating oil and diesel fuel from Irving Oil in Searsport.
“As a company, they need to become more efficient in how they work,” Schwarm told the board.
