ELLSWORTH — Marguerite Frances (Moon) Little, 90, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Courtland Rehab and Living Center, Ellsworth. She was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Hancock, the daughter of Alvin and Eva (Gatcomb) Moon.
“Rete,” as she was affectionately called by many, was educated in the Hancock and Ellsworth school system. She lived in Ellsworth since 1932. She spent her life caring for many children. The Joys, Moores, Scotts, Sanborns, Spauldings, Conarys and Fitches all had the privilege of being cared for by Rete. She was patient and kind and loved each one of her babies. She maintained a special lifelong bond with her goddaughter, Melissa, and her brother, Ernie. She was married to James A. Little, Sept. 6, 1975. Marguerite was a member of the United Baptist Church, Ellsworth since 1953 and was baptized April 5 of that year. She was involved in many of the church activities and participated in the Ladies Aide, the Bible Class, Secret Pal Tea, and many other groups. She was a true Red Sox fan and rarely missed a game. She faced many challenges in her life, which she conquered with grace and dignity. She was not to be kept down and would take on anything that came her way.
Marguerite is survived by her beloved goddaughter, Melissa (Spaulding) Anderson, and her companion, Carl Homes; a dear friend, Annette (Anderson) Smith and her husband, Jackie; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, James A. Little; sister, Isabel (Moon) Urann; and brothers, Morris and Milton Moon.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 5 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26, with the Rev. Scott Connors officiating. Spring interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. Gifts in Marguerite’s memory may be made to the United Baptist Church, P.O. Box 801, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
