BAR HARBOR — A retaining wall has collapsed, necessitating the closure of Duck Brook Road to motorized vehicles from Duck Brook bridge north and then east to where the Duck Brook Road meets the Acadia National Park portion of West Street Extension.
The retaining wall was approximately 10 feet high and 20 feet wide, and collapsed about 200 yards north of the Duck Brook Bridge, park officials said.
In a press release park officials said the wall is integral to the support of the road. Signed, concrete barriers have been placed at both ends of the closed section of road, allowing non-motorized access for bikes and pedestrians.
Officials said that at this point, funding does not exist to complete the repairs and the road will remain closed until repairs can be made.
