BLUE HILL — The Sumner Tigers opened up a 10-4 lead in the first two innings en route to a 16-12 win over the George Stevens Academy Eagles on Tuesday.
Both teams scored early and often in a game that stretched over two hours.
The Tigers grabbed a lead in the top of the first, combining three walks and a hit batter by GSA pitcher Adreanna Simmons with an infield single by Sarah Leighton for two runs.
The Eagles scored four in bottom of the inning on a double by Katie Gray, an RBI single by Victoria Woodward, a pair of walks, some sloppy defense by the Tigers on an infield fly and a wild pitch by righthander Jennie Daley.
But the Tigers erupted for eight runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Hunter Rivers, RBI singles by Leighton, Keira Eschete, Cary Robinson and Jessica West, two walks, a pair of wild pitches and a GSA error.
The Eagles added two runs in the bottom of the second on a walk, an RBI single by Gray and a run-scoring double by Woodward, but the Tigers continued to hang onto the lead the rest of the way.
