BUCKSPORT — Last year, the Bucksport Golden Bucks went 17-3 while winning the Eastern Maine Class B softball championship.
This year, with a squad that lost just one player, the Bucks are competing in the Class C ranks and they opened their season in resounding fashion on Monday.
Bucksport rolled over the freshman-laden Searsport Vikings 19-0, scoring 16 first-inning runs and opting to do nothing but bunt the rest of the way.
Sadie Wight had a two-run single, an RBI double and a bunt single, Bri Bires drove in four runs with a triple and two bunt singles and Jen Wight had three singles to lead the Bucks.
Gwen Higgins had the lone hit — a fifth-inning single — for the Vikings.
