BLUE HILL — More than 60 runners turned out Saturday to participate in the first-ever Hope for a Cure 5K road race.
The race, which organizers hope will become an annual event, started and finished at the Blue Hill Town Park.
Taking top honors with a time of 20 minutes and 24 seconds was Juan Aponte of Brooklin.
Jonathan Rice of Winterport was runner-up in 20:45 and Nate Cole of Sedgwick was third in 21:10.
Rounding out the top 10 runners were Anneli Carter of Deer Isle in 21:15, Tate Yoder of Penobscot in 21:49, Samantha Pickering of Brooklin in 22:28, Josh Wellman of Winterport in 22:53, Bret Hanson of Hudson in 23:08, Jenny Pert of Penobscot in 23:26 and Shawn McKay of Blue Hill in 23:54.
Funds from the event will go to the Hancock County Relay for Life Team USA of the American Cancer Society.
