Triple Murder Suspect Thayne Ormsby Found Guilty on All Counts

Written by  Mark Good Friday, April 13, 2012 at 3:56 pm

HOULTON — Former Ellsworth resident Thayne Ormsby, 21, was found guilty Friday of three counts of murder and one count of arson.

He had been charged with stabbing to death a former Trenton man, 55-year-old Jeffrey Ryan, Ryan’s 10-year-old son, Jesse Ryan, and the elder Ryan’s friend, Jason DeHahn, 30, in the Aroostook County town of Amity in June 2010. His trial began Monday in Houlton Superior Court.

At his arraignment in 2010, Ormsby entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of murder. Last fall, he entered a second plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. With Friday’s verdict, jurors will now consider the insanity defense.

Ormsby, who attended Ellsworth High School, reportedly left Amity after the murders. He was arrested in July 2010 on a fugitive from justice charge after police located him in Dover, N.H. Following his extradition to Maine, Ormsby was booked into the Aroostook County Jail, where he since has been held without bail.
