Heavy equipment operator Don Bennoch was just a young fellow when he started with the department in November of 1971. And it was really a matter of chance that he ended up working for the town and not somewhere else, he said.
The town, he said, has been a great employer, and he has been happy with the way things worked out. He’s plowed roads with the town grader every winter and has run numerous other machines. The best thing has been the variety of projects, he said.
“Outside of hauling sand, it was always something different, every day,” Mr. Bennoch said. “That was the best part, I think.”
Mr. Bennoch said that he doesn’t have anything special planned for his retirement. He is looking forward to having more time for one of his favorite hobbies, he said, riding his Polaris 600 four-wheeler through the woods of Down East.
