MOUNT DESERT — Chef and Northeast Harbor native Emily Damon has had her eye on the Main Sail restaurant at the Kimball Terrace Inn for years.
Now she has leased the space and plans to open it in late May as the Watermark Restaurant and Lounge.
“When I was growing up, my parents practically lived here,” she said of the Main Sail. “It was the place to be in the ’70s, and I’m hoping to revive that.”
Ms. Damon already has a large local following. In 2001, she opened a restaurant called 151 Main Street, which specialized in what she describes as “casual comfort bistro food.” For the 2006 season, she changed the restaurant’s name to House of M, and the menu reflected an Asian influence. She hasn’t had a restaurant project since then, but the Watermark will change that.
As for the cuisine she plans to serve, Ms. Damon said, “Obviously we will focus on seafood, but I also want to do a lot of what I do best, which is the casual 151 style.”
The restaurant, which has seating for 240, overlooks the Northeast Harbor Marina.
