FRANKLIN—The devil is in the details, as Franklin found out this week when an administrative glitch led to postponement of the annual Town Meeting to April 14.
The Maine Municipal Association told selectmen Franklin couldn’t hold its town meeting March 31 as planned because the town warrant was posted by Town Clerk Bob Fernald and not a designated “citizen.”
Fernald said he posted the warrant at the town office, the post office and the Franklin Trading Post because the citizen, Fire Chief Robert Grindle, was not available.
“State law is very specific,” said First Selectman Ian Staub. “The citizen has to actually put the push pins in the bulletin board. We don’t want to do anything against the law.”
Elections will be held at the Town Office Friday, April 13. The Town Meeting will begin at noon on Saturday, April 14.
