CASTINE — The Maine Maritime Mariners softball team hits the road this weekend with games at Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday and Fisher on Sunday.

Maine Maritime (3-1) at Massachusetts Maritime (0-4)

Although Massachusetts Maritime is on of Maine Maritime's biggest rivals in football and lacrosse, Saturday's twinbill marks the first meeting between the Academies.

Maine Maritime at Fisher (0-13)

The Mariners will face Fisher for the 11th time. It will be the first game in the series not played at the University of Maine's Mahaney Dome. Maine Maritime holds a 7-3 lead in the series and ride a six-game winning streak against the Falcons into Boston.

Five Things You Should Know…

5. Maine Maritime's young pitching staff is good when working from behind in the count. The Mariners threw more balls and less strikes with 0-0 counts than any other count combination. The same staff threw more strikes with a full count than any other combination besides 2-0. Taylor was MMA's most efficient pitcher with 71.1 percent of her pitches in the strike zone last week.

4. Mass. Maritime has had trouble finding offense through its first four games. The Bucs have posted four runs through as many games, while allowing 31.  Of the 31 runs scored, 13 have been unearned behind a defense that has committed 11 errors.

3. It's been a tough season defensively for Fisher. The Falcons have the dubious distinction of leading NAIA Division I in Errors per Game with 3.538 per contest. Two Falcons are tied for being the 28th most error-prone players in NAIA DI.

2. Leah Jackson leads Maine Maritime in just about every offensive category, but Sabrina Keach is no slouch, ranking second through the season's first four games. Keach is second in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (.750), on-base percentage (.571), hits (6), home runs (1), and total bases (9).

1. Reggie Jackson laid claim to October, Leah Jackson may have dibs on March. The junior catcher is the reigning North Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Last week, Jackson set Maine Maritime's mark for career home runs as the Mariners swept Maine-Presque Isle in Friday's season opener. Jackson punched her ticket for three round trips, including a walk-off homer in the nightcap, giving her 13 jacks in her career. She was solid throughout opening weekend going 7-for-13 with nine RBIs and seven runs scored. All but one of her hits went for extra bases. She rapped out three doubles on the weekend to go with the home runs, leading the Mariners to a record of 3-1.
