MDI JV Posts 17-1 Season

Written by  Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 1:13 pm

BAR HARBOR — With a stellar record of 17-1, the Mount Desert Island High School junior varsity basketball team finished its season in third place at a JV invitational tournament at Hampden Academy.

“I don’t get too stressed out about records or results, my goal is to get them to improve as much as possible and get them ready for the varsity level,” said head coach Matt Umphrey. “A winning record is nice but it’s not our number-one goal. If you ask the boys it is – they want to win. But we’re trying to work on a little more than that.”

Coach Umphrey had 12 boys on the team this year with no “swingers,” or players who participate in varsity and junior varsity games.

“It was nice to have my 12,” he said. “They really bonded this year, right from the start.”

Team members are:

Max Mason
Andrew Dalton
Isaac Wallace
Chris Kaiser
Ryan Littlefield
Andrew Davis
Tristan Donnally
Dylan Carroll
Steve Hanscom
Josiah Welch
Dakota Stewart
Teagan Candage
