BROOKLIN — Teens who want to join the Brooklin Youth Corps this coming summer must sign up by Saturday, March 31.
The group will not be able to add to its numbers after that date.
The Brooklin Youth Corps is a town-sponsored work and self-esteem program for Brooklin residents between the ages of 14 and 17. From the end of June to mid-August, under the guidance of a coordinator, the teens are paid minimum wage to do chores for homeowners and to tend the school garden. They also do community service and take occasional time off for recreation.
In the summer of 2012, the program will run four days a week, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Doug Mangels again will be the coordinator.
The number of teens who have signed up by March 31 will determine the group’s funding request at Brooklin’s April 7 Town Meeting, which in turn will determine staffing and transportation arrangements.
A teen or parent who wants to reserve a place in this summer’s corps should write to P.O. Box 141, Brooklin, ME 04616, or return a stamped reply card mailed earlier this month to Brooklin parents.
