BAR HARBOR — College of the Atlantic is hosting a one-day printmaking intensive on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The workshop, “Telling Stories in Mixed Monotype,” will be conducted by artists Dina Petrillo of Belfast with Dru Colbert of COA. The cost is $25 per person.

The focus of the workshop is visual storytelling. “While some stories are told well in single images, others are told best over a series of images in sequence. For this workshop, we’ll be bringing together multiple ways of building a monotype image,” said Ms. Petrillo. “We’ll be playing with painterly techniques on Plexiglas, and combining these techniques with stamping, stenciling, frottage and chine colle. We’ll be exploring expedient ways to achieve visual narrative that enlist repeating graphic elements amidst changing fields of color, line, and texture.”

As part of the workshop, Ms. Petrillo, a sculptor and printmaker, will offer a brief slide talk. She runs the Post Office Studio Workshop in Belfast, and has been teaching at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center since in 2004. She has a Master of Arts in Arts and Art Education from Columbia University and an Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College.

The workshop is open to all. Participants younger than 14 should be accompanied by an adult. For more information, contact Ms. Petrillo at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
