Lady Bucks Lose Class C Quarter Final

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:40 pm

BANGOR — The Central Red Devil girls hit only nine of 38 shots and turned the ball over 20 times in Eastern Maine Class C quarterfinal on Wednesday at the Bangor Auditorium.

But the Red Devil defense and rebounding strength were more than enough to give them a 34-24 win over the sixth-ranked Bucksport Golden Bucks.

The Bucks had an even tougher time offensively, connecting on just nine of 48 shots from the floor and four of 14 from the foul line as they closed out their season with a record of 16-4.

After managing just five points in the first period and two in the second, the Golden Bucks scored 14 in the third, cutting the Central lead from 12 to three points.

A free throw by Shelby Redman early in the fourth quarter left the Golden Bucks trailing just 24-22.

But Bucksport managed just two points the rest of the way as the Red Devils gradually extended the lead with just one basket from the floor and eight-of 16 from the foul line.

Redman finished with six points and eight rebounds and Bailey Blair also had six points for the Golden Bucks.

Sam Brownell led Central with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Max McHugh had 10 points and six rebounds.
