CANAAN — Homer O. Carter Sr., 89, of Canaan, husband of Marjorie (Tuttle) Carter, was reunited with the Lord Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, in Skowhegan, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born July 24, 1922, in Mariaville, the only son of Hollis and Myrtle (Closson) Carter.
Homer became a registered Maine Guide at the age of 15, leading many vacationing tourists through the Maine wilderness. After graduating from Ellsworth High School, Homer became a dairy herd tester for Hancock County. Homer also assisted his wife, Marjorie, with a home pet business for years in Canaan. Homer was in the Northeast Logger with pictures on the cover and the inside; it hangs at the University of Maine in the library.
Homer is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie; children, Lottie May Lancaster and husband, Tim, E.H. Carter, Homer Carter Jr. and wife, Mary, and Cyrus Carter and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Carolyn, Kimberly, Courtney, Paul, and Daniel; special granddaughter, Adorra; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Branden, Jayden, Nicholas, Onabelle, Crystal, Jennie, Frankie, James and Joshua; as well as several great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Ona Fleet and Laura Griffin; a daughter, Mildred Carter.
A spring graveside service will be held at Village Cemetery, Pittsfield. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
