DEFY Dolphins Set Meet Records At All-star Event

LEWISTON — Three swimmers from the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA set individual meet records on Sunday at the annual YMCA All-star Swim Meet at Bates College.

Swimmers are chosen to compete based on times achieved at YMCA dual meets during the season and 20 members of the Dolphin swim team joined swimmers from Mount Desert Island, Bangor, Old Town and Dover-Foxcroft on the North Region team, one of three in the state.

Competing in various age groups:

Sam Alvarado, 12, placed first and set a meet record time of 2:04.77 in the 200-yard freestyle and won the 50-yard butterfly in 29.48 seconds. He also was part of the winning team in the medley relay for boys ages 11 and 12.

Atila Tanik, 10, placed first and set a meet record time of 1:16.13 in the 100-yard individual medley and placed second in the 50-yard backstroke n 35.75 seconds.

Erin Connery, 16, placed first and set a meet record time of 5:27.56 in the 500-yard freestyle and was second in the 200-yard indiviudal medley in 2:27.20.

Tanik, Isaac Weaver and Camden Holmes were part of a foursome setting a meet record of 2:22.77 in winning the medley relay for boys ages 9 and 10.

Sidney Hamilton, 10, won the 50-yard freestyle in 30.21 seconds and the 50-yard breaststroke in 39.59 seconds.

Camden Holmes, 10, won the 50-yard freestyle in 29.18 seconds and the 50-yard butterfly in 32.93 seconds.

Sam Pelletier, 10, won the 50-yard breaststroke in 41.12 seconds and, with Isaac Weaver, was part of the winning foursome on the freestyle relay for boys ages 9 and 10.

Keith Chandler, 17, was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.18 seconds and, with Maks Grover, was part of the winning freestyle relay team for senior boys.

Ceileigh Weaver, 12, placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 38.10 seconds.

Cece McEachern, 16, was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.84.

Ellie Clarke, 10, was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:10.33.

Cooper Holmes, 13, was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.98 seconds.

Maya Pelletier, 12, was part of the winning freestyle relay foursome for girls ages 11 and 12.

Others who participated included Jessica Cohen, 13; Lainey Cohen, 17; Talor Hamilton, 13; Katie Hammer, 10; Mallory Nightingale, 17; and Taylor Wardwell, 15.
