Lady Bucks Nip Eagles

ELLSWORTH — On Thursday, the host Ellsworth Eagles erased a 10-point deficit and took a one-point lead before Bucksport senior Bailey Blair scored with 10.4 seconds to go to give the Golden Bucks a 37-36 win.

Sophomore forward Morgan Card led the Eagles in their closing run, scoring eight of her 13 points, but it was junior Claire Russell who provided the go-ahead basket for the Eagles off a steal with 24 seconds left to play.

In the final period, the Golden Bucks had managed just a pair of foul shots by senior Sadie Wight until Blair came up with the biggest shot of the game.

The Eagles had one last opportunity to win but a runner by Berry was off the mark in the final seconds.

Bucksport jumped in front early, scoring the first 10 points of the opening period.

But a basket by junior Taylor White, three in a row by freshman Emily Berry and a banker off the glass by Card knotted the score at 10-10.

Two baskets by senior Shelby Redman and a pair of three-pointers by Wight put the Golden Bucks in front 24-16 at halftime, setting the stage for Ellsworth’s second-half comeback.

Wight led all scorers with 15 points for Bucksport and Blair finished with eight.

Berry had nine for the Eagles.
