Curts, Hubbell Win Events At EMITL Combined Meet

ORONO — Sophomores Dan Curts of the Ellsworth Eagles and Nora Hubbell of the Mount Desert Island Trojans were the lone Hancock County winners in indoor track competition Saturday at the University of Maine fieldhouse.

Athletes from all participating Eastern Maine Indoor Track League high school, regardless of class, combined for Saturday’s meet and only individual scores were recorded.

Ellsworth’s Curts won the mile run in 4:34.68, edging runner-up David Correale of Bangor by slightly more than two seconds.

Other county boys who finished among the top eight in the various events:

For the Sumner Tigers, Kyle Jordan was third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches; Taylor Lee was fourth in the 400-meter run in 55.06 seconds and fifth in the mile run in 4:52.05; John San Diego was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.47 seconds; and Baramee Janla was eighth in the 55-meter dash in 7.34 seconds.

The Tiger foursome of San Diego, Brandon Wade, Janla and Jordan placed second in the four-by-220-yard relay in 1:41.40.

For the MDI Trojans, Trevor Alley was third in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 7.5 inches; William Richard was fifth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches; and Ralph Magnani was seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.58 seconds.

The Trojan foursome of Sean Harding, Matthew Hanna, Aidan Robichaud-Ward and Seamus O’Brien was fourth in the four-by-220-yard relay in 1:50.66.

For the Bucksport Golden Bucks, Eric Davis was seventh in the 400-meter run in 55.62 seconds.

In the girls’ competition, MDI’s Hubbell took top honors in the 800-meter run, nipping Ciara Petrello of John Bapst by 65-hundredths of a second with her winning time of 2:31.18.

Also for MDI, freshman Caroline Driscoll was fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:46.79 and sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:37.93.

Ellsworth sophomore Aleta Looker finished as runner-up to Brewer standout Teal Jackson in both the 200-meter run (28.65 seconds) and the 400-meter run (1:01.93).

For Bucksport, senior Nelly Winship was fifth in the mile run in 5:47.30 and seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:38.60.
