ELLSWORTH — The Bucksport Golden Bucks have been accumulating wins a whole lot faster than tournament points. But on Tuesday, the Golden Bucks helped solidify their post-season playoff hopes as they squeaked past the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners 42-40 in Deer Isle.
With the win, the Golden Bucks improved their record to 10-3 and slipped past Narraguagus and into 10th place in the Eastern Maine Class C standings.
Bucksport, despite having the same record as the top-ranked Orono Red Riots, has seen many its wins come over teams with only a handful of victories, thus garnering few tournament points.
The same is not true for the 10-4 Mount Desert Island Trojans, who sit solidly in fifth place in the Class B standings, and the 7-6 Mariners, who are currently ranked eighth among 15 tournament-qualifying teams in Class D.
The 5-5 Sumner Tigers have slipped into 12th place, one spot out of playoff contention, in Class C.
The 2-10 Ellsworth Eagles in Class B, the 2-10 George Stevens Academy Eagles in Class C and the 0-10 Acadia Christian Seahawks in Class D are out of the playoff picture.
