CASTINE–Alexa Barry (Rindge, N.H.) posted 21 points and seven rebounds to lead Bowdoin to a 74-48 win at Maine Maritime Wednesday evening. The victory was the Polar Bears (13-5) fifth in as many meetings with the Mariners (8-8), improving Bowdoin's record to 8-1 in the series.
Barry shot 9-of-13 from the floor, including a 2-of-2 effort from behind the arc to lead all scorers. Her layup-and-one 3:30 into the game made it 10-2. Allie Piscina (Pelham, N.Y.) hit a pair of free throws two minutes later to put the differential into double-digits, where it remained for the duration.
Barry's seven boards, marked the Polar Bears' team-high, matched by Jill Henrikson (Bath), helping Bowdoin to a 52-40 margin on the glass. The Mariners provided plenty of rebounding opportunities during a dismal first half of shooting, clicking on just 5-of-29 strokes.
Sara Binkhorst (West Hartford, Conn.) gave Bowdoin a 10-point, five-rebound night off of the bench. She also had four assists and a pair of steals. Bowdoin's bench, which got nine points from Piscina, finished with 34 on the night, compared to 12 points posted by the Mariners' reserves.
Maine Maritime did get a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double from Sam Goda (Eliot). Leah Jackson (Dedham) posted seven points and eight rebounds. Maggie Smith (Bath) had nine points and six boards.
