SULLIVAN Beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Angela Marie Whalen, 36, a lifetime resident of Hancock County, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, in Ellsworth. Angela was born Sept. 24, 1975, in Ellsworth, to Amos M. and Jeannie M. (Willey) Kelley.
She grew up in the Gouldsboro area, where she earned a letter in softball and graduated with honors from Sumner Memorial High School in 1994. On Sept. 16, 1995, she married Roy Whalen and they did everything together from that moment on. In a true marriage partnership, she worked alongside Roy aboard his lobster boat and in every other vocation he pursued. In addition, Angela also owned and operated her own redemption center. Her favorite holiday was Christmas because it offered her an opportunity to indulge the kid in herself and to treat the people she loved with special presents. Angela’s generosity was not contained just to Christmas. Throughout the year she would seek opportunities to nurture those around her and would also contribute to various groups and events including Mothers Against Drunk Driving and community lobster boat racing. In her free time, Angela also enjoyed fishing and hunting — especially moose hunting! Angela will be remembered and admired by her family and friends for her courageous attitude as she struggled with cancer and the subsequent treatments for the last five years. She always declared that her positive motivation and spirit was inspired by her children — the biggest part of her life!
Angela is survived by her husband, Roy Whalen and children, Roy Whalen III and Hannah Whalen, at home in Sullivan; father, Amos Kelley of Gouldsboro; mother and stepfather, Jeannie and Stephen Jamo of Gouldsboro; sister and brother-in-law, Karrie and Dan Cole; and special friends, Cheri Brooks, Joe Bennett and Phillip Torrey. She was predeceased by her uncle, David Willey; and father-in-law, Roy Whalen Sr. Angela’s family wishes to recognize and thank Casey Hanson, MD, and the nursing staff of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for their kindness and service.
Visiting hours are scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the Milbridge chapel of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, where a funeral ceremony will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25.
