CASTINE – Maine Maritime senior guard, Maggie Smith (Bath) was named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week. First-year forward, Crystal Clark (Chelsea) was named to the Rookie of the Week Honor Roll.
Smith averaged 22 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Mariners. Smith scored a career-high 29 points in the Mariners win at Johnson State including a career high six three point field goals. Smith was 9-for-18 from the floor, 6-for-9 from three-point land and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. She also grabbed three rebounds, collected two assists. Smith followed that performance with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists in a win at Lyndon, which included three more treys. The senior guard shot 44% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc for the week.
Clark posted eight rebounds and five assists in the Mariners' wins over Johnson and Lyndon. She grabbed five offensive boards, helping the Mariners to 18 second-chance points in MMA's 57-46 win over Lyndon. The Mariners return to action Thursday evening against Maine rival, Thomas College. MMA will travel to Farmington for a tilt with the Beavers on Saturday.
