MARIAVILLE – The Maine Warden Service and other agencies are using airboats and other equipment today to search Graham Lake and its surroundings for a Mariaville man who failed to return Friday from a snowmobile trip.
Matthew Divello, 49, left his home by snowmobile on the Morrison Farm Road yesterday afternoon. He was reported missing that evening, according to Cpl. John MacDonald of the warden service.
The Morrison Farm Road is off Route 181 and skirts part of the Graham Lake shoreline. Exactly where Divello traveled after leaving home has not been determined, MacDonald said Saturday morning. Search efforts solely aren’t focused on the lake.
“We’re still looking on land as well,” MacDonald said. “We just don’t know.”
Ice conditions on the lake are difficult to judge.
“It varies greatly,” MacDonald said. “You’d be hard-pressed to find good ice out in the middle.”
On Friday night, volunteers from the Mariaville and Waltham fire departments assisted game wardens in the search, which employed a searchlight-equipped LifeFlight helicopter.
Divello was dressed in a black winter jacket, black snowmobile pants and was wearing a black helmet. He was riding 2003 Arctic Cat, which also is black.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Maine State Police at 1-800-432-7381.
