Lady Mariners Take a Bite Out of Terriers

CASTINE — Sam Goda (Eliot) scored 23 points and pulled in nine rebounds to lead Maine Maritime to a 78-45 win over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball Thursday evening.  Goda was one of four Mariners (8-6, 5-3) to score in double figures as MMA rolled to its 17th consecutive win over the Terriers (2-13, 2-7 NAC).

Goda hit 9-of-14 shots from the floor and cashed in on 5-of-9 shots at the line for MMA. The Mariners collectively shot 27-of-65 (41.5%) on the night, including a 52 percent effort in the second half. Maggie Smith (Bath) scored 14 points , while Bekah Campbell (Corinth) put up 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Courtney Dufour (Augusta), who went 3-of-6 from three-point land, finished with 11 points. Leah Jackson (Dedham) led all rebounders with 10 collected caroms. She also posted a game-high eight assists.

Maine Maritime led by five, 15-10, midway through the first half, but the Mariners went on a 12-0 run that lasted nearly seven minutes. Smith accounted for eight of her points in the decisive run.

Thomas got 16 points and five rebounds from Karin Bird (Lee). Kate Thibodeau (Woolrich) scored seven points and was 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Lindsay Fry (Nantucket, Mass.) had a team-high seven rebounds.

Maine Maritime travels to Maine-Farmington for NAC action on Saturday.
