ELLSWORTH — As high school teams and fans begin to look ahead to the Eastern Maine basketball tournaments, three of the seven Hancock County girls’ teams appear well out of the picture.
In Class B, the Mount Desert Island Trojans, after reeling off five consecutive wins, have climbed to fifth place in the standings with a 9-3 record and look to be tournament-bound.
The Ellsworth Eagles claimed their first victory of the season this week after nine losses but are mired in 17th place among the 19 teams in Class B.
In Class C, the 8-2 Bucksport Golden Bucks and the 5-5 Sumner Tigers are currently battling for the 11th — and last — qualifying spot in the standings with Bucksport currently in the driver’s seat with a 4.6-point lead over the 12th-ranked Tigers.
The 1-9 George Stevens Academy Eagles are well out of playoff contention in 14th place.
In Class D, the 5-5 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners are currently ranked eighth with Machias and Jonesport-Beals just fractions of a point behind them.
The Acadia Christian Seahawks, who have yet to win, sit at the bottom of the standings.
