JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College used a 55% field goal shooting effort to fuel a 73-53 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball victory on Friday at Carter Gymnasium over Maine Maritime Academy. The Badgers improve to 3-10, 3-4 NAC while the Mariners slip to 2-11, 1-6 NAC.
Sophomore guard Scott Moran (Orange, Conn.) scored a game and career-high 21 points and added four assists and sophomore forward Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt.) added 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and six rebounds to lead JSC. Junior point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored nine points and dealt out six assists while freshman forward Cory Chase (Milton, Vt.) scored eight points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds off the Badger bench.
MMA saw sophomore forward Andy Ball (Hermon) net a team-best 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting while senior center Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham) hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds.
Johnson earned a 34-19 rebound advantage on the night to help key the victory and 20-10 rebound advantage in the first half to help take a 40-25 lead into the halftime.
Johnson returns to the floor tomorrow for a 2:00 pm tip-off against Husson University while Maine Maritime heads east to Lyndon State College for a 1:00 pm start time.
